China Development Gateway (chinagate.com.cn) is a comprehensive website established jointly by the Chinese government and the World Bank. An important part of the Global Development Gateway, sponsored by the World Bank, the website aims at introducing the Chinese situation to the world, sharing development experiences with other countries, serving international cooperation and contributing to poverty alleviation and development promotion.


Under the guidance of the Information Office of the State Council and the Ministry of Finance, chinagate.com.cn was developed and is maintained by the China Internet Information Center (china.org.cn) with the support of dozens of presses, institutions of higher learning, and both public and private organizations including China International Publishing Group, chinadaily.com.cn and Shanghai Universal Information Technology Corporation Ltd.


Chinagate.com.cn began a trial run on September 1, 2001. On May 28, 2002, the website began providing comprehensive information services in both Chinese and English. The website offers some 20 columns such as Latest News, About China, Development Agenda, Poverty Elimination Requirements, Business Invitation Information, Expert Forum, Hot Topics and World Bank in China. Also, it provides such services as information on travel, meteorology, and finance as well as a search engine.


The chinagate.com.cn has gained recognition from prominent people and institutions at home and abroad as "the East's development gateway" and "China's information hub."
