Enrollment Procedures and Requirements for SELF-SUPPORTED STUDY IN CHINA


    The China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as the CSC) takes charge of the application and enrollment of applicants recommended by overseas academic institutions, educational organizations or nongovernmental friendship associations, and takes charge of individual's application to study in China as self-supporting student.

1. The duration of schooling

The duration of study is:

Undergraduates: 4-5 years
Master's applicants: 2-3 years
Doctor's applicants: 3 years
General scholars: within 2 years
Senior scholars: within 1 year
Short-term students: within 6 months

The above duration does not include the time of elementary Chinese language study.

2. Qualifications of the applicants

1). Applicants must be of non-Chinese nationality and be healthy.

2). The educational background and age limit:

a. Undergraduate applicants must finish senior high school.
b. Master's applicants must finish bachelor's study.
c. Doctoral applicants must finish master's study.
d. General scholars must finish sophomore's study.
e. Senior scholars must obtain master's degree or hold academic titles of vice professor or higher.

  

3. Submission of application materials

1). Qualified applicants shall fill out the Application Form for Self Support Study in China ( in duplicates).

2). Submission of the following materials

a. highest diploma (notarized photocopy)
b. transcripts (notarized photocopy)
c. Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (Photocopy)
d. master's, doctoral applicants and research scholars, senior scholars must submit two letters of recommendation.
e. applicants for music or fine arts shall submit one cassette of recorded audio materials of art work or six colour photographs of works (including two sketches and two colour paintings).
f. Applicants for undergraduate study in science, engineering, agriculture and medicine shall submit the Certificate of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry Tests. Applicants for undergraduate study in economics, trade and management shall submit the Certificate of Mathematics Test

    Applicants recommended by overseas academic institutions, educational organizations or nongovernmental friendship associations shall submit application materials to the above institutions which will transfer the materials to the CSC. Individual applicants can send the materials direct to the CSC. The materials shall reach the CSC by May 31st 2001.

4. The approval to study in China

Processed by the CSC and enrolled by the institution, the CSC, by July 31st 2001, will send the Admission Notice and Visa Application for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China (JW201) to the recommending institution or direct to the applicants.

For individual applicants, the Chinese institutions are responsible of direct sending to the applicants the Admission Notice and Visa Application for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China (JW202).

5. The handling of visa to China, verification of physical examination and residence in China

1). Candidates shall bear general passport to apply for the student visa (X visa) with the original copies of Admission Notice, Visa Application for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China and Physical Examination Record for Foreigner to the Chinese embassy (consulate) and register in China with the original forms of the above documents.

2). After registering in the institution, candidates shall, with their passports and the original form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigner, go through the procedures of verification of their physical examination at the local quarantine office.

3). Candidates shall apply within 30 days of arrival in China for the residency permit to the local police authority with their passports, Admission Notice, Visa Application for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China and the Certificate of Verification of Physical Examination Record for Foreigner.
