Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ma Zhaoxu's Remarks on the U.S. Transferring Uighur Guantanamo Detainees to Palau
2009/11/03

Q: The US Department of Justice released information on October 31 that the U.S. had already transferred to Palau six Chinese "East Turkistan" terrorist suspects detained in Guantanamo Bay. Do you have any comment?

A: China's position on the Chinese Uighur terrorist suspects in the Guantanamo prison is consistent and unequivocal. These terrorist suspects are members of the terrorist group, "the East Turkistan Islamic Movement", which is on the sanction list of the UN Security Council Committee established pursuant to Resolution 1267. They should be handed over to China and brought to justice. We express strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to the U.S. transferring the terrorist suspects to a third party in disregard of China's objection. We have already lodged solemn representations with the US side. China urges the U.S. to abide by relevant UN Security Council resolutions and its international anti-terrorism obligations, stop transferring the above-mentioned terrorist suspects to a third party and repatriate them to China as soon as possible. China also opposes any country accepting these suspects.
